Keepers: LaDanian Tomlinson and Nate Burleson
What else is there to say about LT? He’s the consensus #1. Again, Burleson is my pick to be the #1 fantasy
receiver this year. Look for 100 catches, 1,400 yards, and 15 TD’s.
Grade: A
Draft:
QB: Aaron Brooks and Byron Leftwich.
Brooks is one of the most frustrating fantasy QB’s in the league. Has the weapons, but makes stupid mistakes. He
makes you wish you had Jake Plummer. But he is a dual threat to score in the air and on the ground. But word is
Deuce is getting a huge workload this year, so Brooks numbers could be down. Leftwich could end up being the
starter for Jay’s team. Everyone loves the kid, but he could be a poor man’s Tom Brady. A guy who is a better
football player than a fantasy football player. He always seems to only have 200 yards and 1 TD. He doesn’t make
the mistakes to lose a game and comes up big in the clutch, but those are two factors that don’t carry into fantasy
points.
Grade: C+
RB: Kevan Barlow, Tatum Bell, Anthony Thomas, and Aaron Stecker.
One of the more obscure running back core’s in the league. Barlow could have a good year, and quite honestly, he
can’t be any worse than last year. But if the 49ers really suck, look for Frank Gore to get some playing time. Tatum
Bell is the one to watch in the group. If he takes the #1 spot in Denver, then you really can’t beat the running back
core of LT and Bell. But he hasn’t impressed and looks to be the backup behind Mike Anderson. How this plays out
could determine both his team and the team that owns Anderson. Thomas and Stecker are more hopeful selections.
They have no value whatsoever unless Julius Jones and Deuce McCallister go down. Look for one of both to be
dropped at some point within the first 4 weeks.
Grade: C
WR: Javon Walker, Keary Colbert, Keyshawn Johnson, and Joey Galloway.
Javon Walker is the man and combined with Burleson gives Jay potentially two top 5 fantasy WR’s. Colbert is a
great #3 if he holds off Rod Gardner. Keyshawn is a decent possession receiver that could benefit fantasy wise
from the new reception point system. Galloway could be a nice plug in given the matchups, if he stay’s healthy.
Overall, a solid group of wideouts.
Grade: A-
TE: Jason Witten.
A top 3 TE who could benefit from Bledsoe’s inability to stay in the pocket long.
Grade: A-
K: Rian Lindell.
Buffalo’s offense could be explosive. Throw in a top defense and that could mean a lot of points for Lindell to kick.
Grade: B
DEF: Tampa Bay.
The days of TB being a dominating defense are long gone, but they are still a decent play. Much like Miami.
Grade: B-
Best Draft Pick: Javon Walker
Worst Draft Pick: Aaron Stecker
Team Strenghts: WR (two studs) and TE
Team Weaknesses: Question marks at QB and RB.
Key to Success: Jay has more than one as Tatum Bell could be a huge deciding factor. But LT is so good, he’
s about equal to 2 average RB’s. So I’ll go with whoever wins the QB battle: Brooks or Leftwich. Who Jay
settles on could decide whether the ‘self proclaimed greatest thing to happen to women since tampons’
continues his playoff streak.
Overall Grade: B+ (thanks to a great core of LT, Burleson, and Walker).
