Keepers: Edgerrin James and Trent Green
Marc has two solid keepers. James is in a contract year, which typically means big numbers. Problem is he racks up
the yards, but doesn’t find the end zone like he should thanks to Peyton’s penchant for throwing in the red zone.
Still a top 7 RB. Trent Green is the most underrated fantasy QB. Every year he throws for at least 3,500 yards and
25 TD’s and that’s w/o a legit #1 WR. But not a keeper QB, except in the deepest of leagues.
Grade: B+
Draft:
QB: Ben Roethlisberger.
The proto-typical good player in real life, terrible player in fantasy. Plus word out of camps is the real Big Ben is the
guy who bombed in the playoffs and not the guy who won 13 straight games during the regular season.
Grade: D+
RB: Curtis Martin, Quentin Griffin, and Moe Williams.
The eternal one is coming off his best season ever. But sooner or later the age and all those carries will catch up to
him. Could this be the year? Probably not, but he might not match last years production level. Griffin is a deep,
deep sleeper. He currently sits #4 on the depth chart in the crowded Denver backfield (behind Anderson, Bell, and
Dayne), so he’ll need a lot of help to see playing time. But they all have injury concerns and Griffin could be the
man at some point during the season. But that means Marc will have to stash him on the bench and take up a roster
spot for several weeks. He’s better suited as a nice find on the waiver wire (surprisingly he got cut). Moe is a goal
line threat who could see significant work if Bennett and Moore don’t pan out.
Grade: B-
WR: Roy Williams, Jimmy Smith, Santana Moss, Tyrone Calico, and Bobby Engram.
A nice mix of players selected by Marc. Roy Williams is a potential breakout star. Despite the fact that the Lions
have three first round draftpicks at wideouts and a questionable Harrington throwing him the ball, the fact that Roy
doesn’t have to face double coverages all the time will mean an increase in production. Jimmy Smith is a solid #2
fantasy WR despite being on the downslope of his career. He’s still capable of getting a decent amount of
receptions and yards. Moss is inconsistent, but is still the #1 receiver on the team. Plus he can have a few 180
yards, 2 TD days. The bench consists of a couple of nice complementary guys. Calico and Engram are both the
starting #2 wideouts on their high explosive offensive teams. Problem is Calico has yet to play this preseason and is
injury prone and Engram faces competition for the #2 WR position on Seattle.
Grade: B+
TE: Todd Heap.
One of the original members of the ‘elite’ fantasy TE’s (pre-Gates). As long as he’s healthy, he’s a legitimate threat
for tons of catches and TD’s. I mean he was a keeper last year. But he’s still injury prone.
Grade: B+
K: Olindo Mare.
Either the worst possible kicker, since his team may not score 3 points per game, or a genius pick since his team
may only score FG’s.
Grade: B (I’m pretty much giving all kickers a B)
DEF: Pittsburgh.
One of the top defenses last year returns with pretty much the same team. Plus they have Troy Palomola.
Grade: A-
Best Draft Pick: Roy Williams (Although I still like Tyrone Calico)
Worst Draft Pick: Ben Roethlisberger (Quentin Griffin is too easy a pick)
Team Strengths: RB
Team Weaknesses: Nothing glaring (but kicker could be improved)
Key to Success: Roy Williams. Will he take the next step to becoming a true #1 receiver or will he be
another injured Lions receiver leaving Marc with a suspect receiving core.
Overall grade: B
