Keepers: Shaun Alexander and Torry Holt.
Alexander is arguably the second best fantasy player in all of football. He has a legitimate shot of scoring 20 TD’s
and he’s in a contract year. Holt is one of the games premier wide receivers and ‘the man’ in what could be the
leagues highest scoring offense. Chris has himself a top 3 RB and top 5 WR (sadly for the last year).
Grade: A
Draft:
QB: Tom Brady.
Chris drafted the man he wishes he was. Brady won’t blow you away, but he’s consistent and will get you 1-2 TD’s
and 200-250 yards a game. Enough to keep your team in contention.
Grade: B+
RB: Rudi Johnson, Lee Suggs, and Chris Perry.
Chris got the one sure RB left in the draft (I guess you could argue Curtis Martin, but he’s old). Rudi and Alexander
in the backfield gives Chris one of the best (if not the best) RB combo in the league. Suggs is a nice addition on the
bench, if he plays. Problem is nobody knows when that will be. As of now, he’s out for the first month or so, but
reports are that the injury is worse than reported. Plus he’ll be coming into a crowded backfield. He has potential,
but so did Ryan Leaf. Chris Perry is a good handcuff pick for Rudi Johnson, plus reports are that the fans love him
(like that means anything).
Grade: A-
WR: Deion Branch, Greg Lewis, Reggie Williams, Rod Gardner, and Jerry Rice.
Look for Branch to have a breakout year and set himself apart from the rest of the Patriot receivers. He’ll be a big
receptions guy (see last year’s Super Bowl). Greg Lewis and Rdo Gardner could be nice surprises. Lewis could
benefit nicely from the Pinkston injury and if anything happens to T.O. Plus he’s in his third year. Gardner could be
a nice replacement for Muhammed, don’t expect the same kind of numbers, but he could get some looks in the red
zone. Reggie Williams is expected to step up and complement Jimmy Smith, but I think he’s a bust who will lose out
to Matt Jones and/or Ernest Wilford. I know what you’re thinking about Jerry Rice, why would Chris pick him? Well,
Chris looked at Jerry’s average stats over his career and said wow, this guy should be in the hall of fame. And he
couldn’t figure out for the life of him, why he wasn’t taken earlier. So, he thought he got a steal in the late round. But
look for him to be dropped soon (coincidentally, for Peerless Price prior to announcing his retirement).
Grade: B
TE: Randy McMichael.
One of the few fantasy players worth having from the Miami roster. McMichael will be good for his typical 5+ TD’s.
Problem is Randy is having off-field problems, which could result in a suspension during the season. That on top of
bye weeks, will force Chris to either carry two TE’s or drop McMichael all together.
Grade: B-
K: Ryan Longwell.
One of the steadiest and consistent kickers in the league. He’s been a frequent visitor on the top 10 list of fantasy
kickers. Look for him to have another good season.
Grade: B
DEF: Buffalo.
My pick to be the highest scoring fantasy defense this year. They have a team capable of getting sacks, turnovers,
and return TD’s. One of Brock’s best picks.
Grade: A-
Best Draft Pick: Rudi Johnson
Worst Draft Pick: Jerry Rice
Team Strengths: RB
Team Weaknesses: No obvious weakness
Key to Success: Deion Branch.
If he produces similar numbers as last year, then Chris doesn’t have a legitimate #2 receiver. But if he
produces as everyone expects him too (like he did in the Super Bowl), then Chris has a very solid and
balanced team and could return to the playoffs.
Overall Grade: A-
