Theme of the week: It’s still early. Be patient. It’s a marathon, not a race.
One week wonders or the next waiver wire steal?
Patrick Crayton – Hopefully for Five Second Stare, he’s this year’s Nate Burleson.
Frisman Jackson – The #4 WR on the depth chart outperforms the rest of Cleveland’s WR (Bryant, Edwards, and
Northcutt). What are the odds that he’ll keep it up?
Alex Smith – This year’s Antonio Gates or just a lucky week?
Chris Baker – Best week of all the TE’s. Where did all these TE’s come from?
Marty Booker – The high-powered Dolphins offense?
Gus Frerotte – The high-powered Dolphins offense?
Get used to it:
Deuce McAllister – Yards were down, but he got a lot of carries and 2 TD’s. Should have been 3.
Priest Holmes/Larry Johnson – Splitting carries with both getting their fantasy numbers. Week one went to LJ. It’ll be
interesting to see how Navid plays the two (he arguably could play both each week)?
Marc Bulger – Yards and TD’s will be the norm since he’ll throw 40 times a game, just don’t expect the wins. But who
cares about that in fantasy.
Carson Palmer – 280 yards and 2 TD’s will be an average day.
Randy Moss – Imagine what he’ll do to a team with a bad secondary (i.e. the Chargers?).
Don’t get too excited:
Keenan McCardell – Gates comes back next week.
Willie Parker – Duce and the Bus come back soon.
Gus Frerotte – Not all opponents will be as bad as Denver secondary (w/o Champ Bailey)
Drew Bledsoe – Not all opponents will have as pathetic a secondary as the S.D. Chargers.
Larry Fitzgerald – He’ll continue to posts numbers on his way to the pro bowl, but he won’t see too many 13 catch,
155 yard days since Warner won’t be throwing 46 times every week. Expect Arizona to run the ball more.
Giants Defense – 2 special team TD’s don’t occur often.
Ben Roesthlisberger – I never said the Titans defense was any good. Norm Chow is the “offensive” coordinator (I
know they only put up 7 points here, but that’s not his fault).
Kerry Collins – Anyone who saw the game knows the stats were better than he actually played.
Don’t get worried:
Drew Brees – Finished with 2 TD’s and 2 INT. With Gates, would have been 3 TD’s and 1 INT.
J.J. Arrington – Will see more carries than 8.
Roy Williams – Will get more looks.
Trent Green – Coming off surgery. Just wait till he finds his rhythm.
Duante Culpepper – Once the running game figures itself out, he’ll perform better. He may not be the clear-cut #2
QB anymore, but he’s still top 5-7.
Get worried:
Chad Pennington – Shoulder does not look healed. Reminds me of Kurt Warner after he got hurt and came back at
the start of 2003 and fumbled 5 times.
Andre Johnson – David Carr scares me. No #2 WR to help out means lots of double teams.
Michael Bennett – Seemed like he was running the wrong way. Somebody call up Onterrio Smith.
Domanick Davis – The entire Houston offense looks terrible.
Jason Witten – Bledsoe throws it around, but needs more blocking. Witten could see more time blocking than
catching (a la Shockey last year). He’ll still posts good numbers, just no where near last year’s numbers.
Tiki Barber – Jacobs looks like the real deal. Loss of goal line carries and about 5-7 TD’s. But as long as the
receptions keep coming, he’ll be valuable in fantasy.
Entire Denver offense – QB, RB, WR………..all sad.
Better than expected:
Trent Dilfer – He may be a serviceable #2 QB after all. Although, I still think Charlie Frye will play at some point this
year.
SF Offense – Rattay, Lloyd, Battle, Barlow
Cadillac Williams – Wasn’t great until that 71 yard TD to seal the victory for TB. Could be the best rookie RB in the
draft as JJ and Ronnie Brown were less than impressive (Benson has yet to play).
Miami and Detroit Defense – Who needs offense.
Injuries – the ultimate fantasy killer
Mike Anderson – Thanks for nothing. Looks to be out for week 2, but the time off could give Tatum Bell the
opportunity to take away the starting spot. Although, he didn’t take advantage once Anderson got hurt in week 1.
Javon Walker – You gotta feel for Jay C. Last year it was Steve Smith, this year Javon Walker. Out for the season, a
huge blow to Jay C.’s team and Gregg Moore (since it directly affects Brett Favre).
Jeremy Shockey – Had an early TD catch, but then left the game with a leg injury.
Patrick Ramsey – Who cares?
Kyle Boller – He played?
ROFFL Teams:
Born to Run My Mouth: Seriously, considering everything you went through these past few weeks, even I was
rooting for you.
5 Second Stare – Tough loss made worse by loss of Walker. Is the former champ worried? Hardly. He’s still average
good looking. Plus he has some good depth at WR with Keyshawn, and the pickup of Patrick Crayton could pay off
(oddly enough, he also has Jason Witten on his team). He needs to hope Burleson plays like the stud everyone
predicts he will be or he’s really screwed.
Shermtank – After an unSherman-like draft, Jason threw an unSherman-like egg in week one. Micheal Bennett
might as well have been Tony Bennett. Jamal Lewis might as well have been Huey. Does this mean Jason will have
an unSherman-like season and not make the playoffs?
Brock’s Bandits – Continuing his tough luck streak from last year, Brock ends up on the wrong side of another high
scoring affair. If he played anyone else this week, he would have won. Watch next week, he scores only 60 points.
Sidenote: Does any team have as nasty a starting lineup combined with no bench at all, like Brock? The guy
obviously reached for a TE and Defense rather than adding depth to his bench. As scary as his starters are, what
happens during bye weeks and if someone gets hurt?
Nose – Luck counts for something right?
New Jersey Jacobins – From worst to first?
Colt 45’s – His lackluster win in week one combined with QB questions only confirms that he will in fact win this year.
Nomads in the Deep – If my memory serves me correct, you lost the first week last year and you finished up doing
ok.
Duckville Quakers – With all those question marks and poor performances, you still managed to put up over 100
points. I guess there’s a silver lining in there somewhere.
Brick Walls and Trees – Since when do you trash talk this much?
Married with Ravens – Picking up where he left off last regular season. It pays to be the first person to pickup
someone off free agency.
Baltimore Tools – Roethlisberger in, Green out. Bold move commish.
Propoganda – The new king of the free agency/waiver wire. It pays to log on before the rest of us wake up.
Final Thoughts:
Don’t pay too much attention to the rankings. Week 4 is when things start to shape up.
Does anyone even read these?
