Draft Day 2005: “I’m telling you, he’s going to get suspended.”
-        B.Yeung

Those were the predictions made by yours truly. As anyone present on draft day could tell by my indecisiveness, I
didn’t want to keep T.O. I knew it was going to happen. But in the end, how could you not keep him. He is the 2nd or
3rd best WR in fantasy. I got eight good weeks out of him. He helped me to a 4-4 record. That’s the risk you take
with him. I knew it. I got plenty of trade inquiries about him (which I’m glad I didn’t take b/c I would feel guilty if I
traded him to someone else and ripped them off that bad. That’s why I will never win this league). The risk/reward
was high. Unfortunately, for me, the risk turned out to be greater than the reward.

Now that I think of it, I give Scott even more credit for not keeping Randy Moss. 75% of the league would have kept
Moss. Although, his 3rd option (Westbrook) is better than most people’s, he still made a tough and correct choice
(in hindsight). He made what appears to be the safe choice by keeping Jordan and Westbrook, but if he hadn’t
made that choice, he would not have started 7-0 (currently 8-1). Like I said in my draft analysis, he did what I could
not do. Not keep the talented, but headache inducing player and go the safe route. It’s those decisions that
separate the champions (Scott) from the lottery teams (me).

Of course, hindsight is 20-20, but it looks like I had no good choice as my 2nd keeper. I would have kept Javon
Walker instead of T.O., and that would have been even worse. Now, the best keeper for me would have been
Carson Palmer, but who would have considered keeping him out of all the players on my roster.

Now what? I’m not one to give up or complain much (yea, right). Nothing I can do about T.O. I made the choice and
it blew up in my face. I made the second mistake by dropping Reggie Brown after I picked him up as insurance (I
thought T.O. was going to play since he practiced Thursday and Friday). With my luck, my third mistake will be
dropping T.O. and watching someone else pick him up off waivers and seeing him come back during the playoffs.
But I’m still in the playoff hunt and it’s not over yet. Funny how things can turn just like that. In week eight, I put up a
career high 149+ points and my team looked scary good. Now what?

BTW, you just know someone is going to pick up T.O. and stash him on their bench. It’s worth the risk if you have
the roster spot. The current waiver priority is Chris, Marc, Gregg, and Navid. I know for a fact, Navid would take him.
Gregg you can count out due to what will be referred to as the Nick Serrano deficiency. But, I wouldn’t be surprised
if Chris or Marc put in the claim as both need help at WR.

Enough about T.O. and my complaints. I usually hate it when people write about their own team and what transpires.
But I just had to say something. Sure my attempt at humor (Message from T.O.) failed (although Jason found it
funny)……btw, thanks Marc for adding injury to insult with your post. And I didn’t want to copy Brock or Josh with
their letters/comments to their players. But, I had to write something. Anyhow, now’s the time to earn my nickname
(Silent Fantasy Assassin). Otherwise, it’s time to give that name to Navid.

ROFFL Random Thoughts:
I don’t have much to say about everyone’s team this week. So, I’ll keep it short.

  1. Edgerrin James is the arguably the 3rd best RB in fantasy football. LaMont Jordan could be the 4th.
  2. Good win Scott. If there was any week I should have beaten you, that was the week. But you won with a
depleted roster and now you have Bulger back. A win is a win. Sidenote: Duane Starks sucks.
  3. I give Nick a lot of credit. He’s won 4 of the last 5. His team doesn’t scare you, but he’s finding ways to win.
Proof that you must have the 2nd and 3rd backup for your RB’s.
  4. Gregg is going through a rough stretch right now (4 game losing streak), but he just got married and is on his
honeymoon. Hey, some things warrant your attention more than others. Although, he is still paying attention
to his team. Good luck this week buddy.
  5. Like I said last week, Jason and Jarrett’s team are scary. They are pretty much a lock for the playoffs.
  6. You’re starting to see a separation of teams now. The upper echelon teams (Scott, Navid, Chris, Jarrett, Jay),
the second tier teams (Dave, myself, Josh, Gregg), the borderline playoff/lottery teams (Marc, Rich and
    Parker) and lottery team (Jason).

Random Thoughts:

  1. Parker is a true comic genius. Someone in the entertainment business needs to discover this man. Because
he sees things on a whole nother level that most of us can’t appreciate or understand. I mean the Village
People “In the Navid”, the whole “Yahoo confuses Marc with the tools link”. None of us would even think of
    that.
  2. Whoever thought of putting the Kanye West “Jesus Walks” song to the trailer for Jarhead is a marketing wiz. It
    works on so many levels.
  3. Who else, besides Chris, is going to go watch “Get Rich or Die Tryin” this weekend?
  4. I can’t wait for Scott Watson’s playoff preview. You are writing one, right Scott?

Finally, I leave you with a scene from Monsters, Inc.

Scully (voiced by John Goodman) opens the closet door.

Scully
“See, Boo. There are no Monsters in the closet.”

Boo is still scared.
Scully walks into the closet.

Scully
“Look, its empty. No monsters in here……
……well, now there is.”
