Since last week, the NFL offseason activity has calmed down a little. That doesn’t mean there aren’t a few player
movements to report.
The big trade was Willis McGahee going from Buffalo to Baltimore (new home of the Moore’s). This immediately
makes McGahee an early/mid first round draft pick and opens up a spot in Buffalo. So far they have resigned
Anthony Thomas (currently on team labor power). Look for them to make a move in the draft, sign Chris Brown, or
even take a look at Corey Dillon. But if they go with A-train as their starter, then Nick has gotten lucky again and may
have himself a nice little keeper.
Two other RB’s also made the move to a new team:
1. Dominic Rhodes signs with the Oakland Raiders, where he will split time with Lamont Jordan (that is if he is fully
healed from his knee injury from last year). Look for both to be mid to late round draft picks.
2. Reuben Droughns is traded to the New York Giants for Tim Carter. Droughns will split time with Brandon Jacobs,
giving the G-men two bruising backs that will pound out the yardage. Personally, as a Giants fan, I would have liked to
see them trade for a pass catching back. This hurts Jacobs value the most as he goes from legitimate keeper option
to second or third rounder. Droughns will go in the mid to late rounds. Look for the New Jersey Jacobins to have his
eye on one of these two players.
Finally, in New England, Belicheck and Co. sign and trade for Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison, Larry Fitgerald and draft
Calvin Johnson. Ok, not quite. But doesn’t it feel like that with all the WR’s they have signed/traded for lately. First it
was Wes Welker, then Donte Stallworth, and finally Kelly Washington. Now none of those names will strike fear in
opposing defenses, but they combine with Ben Watson, Reche Caldwell, Jabar Gaffney, and Chad Jackson to give
Tom Brady a plethora of options to throw to. Brady automatically jumps into the top four QB’s and is a viable keeper
option for Brockman and Co. (Ironically, many people often confuse Chris Brockman for Tom Brady).
Some other under the radar moves. TJ Duckett signs with Detroit to further cloudy that backfield situation (Sorry
Scott). Daniel Graham signs with Denver (giving Cutler another option to throw to). Eric Johnson goes to New Orleans
(giving Brees one more weapon).
Other Random notes:
• I have created a fantasy baseball league, which once again everybody has ignored my emails about. Why do I even
bother creating these leagues? Nobody signs up and those who do - don’t even pay attention. Just goes to tell you
what people think about me. I’d like to thank Jay, Jarrett, and Dave for signing up. The rest of you, I am taking this as
a personal slight.
• Scott Watson has created the first ever fantasy movie league. The league features Navid, Marc, Minnie, and myself.
The league is already more intense and more anticipated than ROFFL draft weekend. Predictions: I think Minnie will
destroy the competition and take home the big pot of $50. Finishing last will be current toilet bowl winner, yours truly.
• March Madness is under way. If you haven’t already done so, get your brackets into Mr. Epstein as soon as
possible. Some things to keep in mind if you do plan on participating:
1. A #12 seed always beats a #5.
2. No #16 seed has ever defeated a #1 seed.
3. A double-digit seed always makes the sweet sixteen.
4. All #1 seeds never make the final four.
And to end this brief, lackluster, and utterly waste of a column, I’d like to wish an early birthday to Jason C. Sherman
and Marc Epstein. Both celebrate March birthdays, so remember to wish them a happy birthday. The party is at
Trump Plaza and if you aren’t a VIP, don’t even bother showing up unless you bring ten women with you or a ROFFL
trophy.
