I’ve heard your complaints Navid and I am here to grant you your wish. No random talk. Just straight football and analysis.
DoubleGG – The first place team pulls off the first big trade of the season. Talk about going all in. Scotty Wats shows no fear in trading keeper RB
Maurice Jones Drew for preseason stud WR Marques Colston. I say preseason, because he was ranked as a top 5 WR coming into the season. But an
injury and a slow recovery has led to a disappointing season. Will Colston return to his old form? He has a very favorable fantasy playoff schedule. And
he shores up Scotts weakest position while not causing him to suffer too much at RB (thanks to the rise of Steve Slaton). Portis, Calvin, and Colston!!!
DoubleGG has just put everyone on notice, he is gunning for that trophy.
Shermtanks – Jason is holding firm in his roster and I’m not sure if that’s a great idea. Jason has arguably the best TE in the last few weeks (Owen
Daniels), three good/great RB’s, three good and one great WR’s, and a top five QB. But a lot of his guys are fading at the wrong time. Cutler has not
been good the last few games and is putting up nowhere near the stats he was throwing up the first few games of the year. Plax is dealing with
suspensions and fines, which seems to be affecting his play and his relationship with his teammates. And LDT has been uneven. If I know Jason, he will
show tremendous faith in his team and ride them to another championship game. But I think he needs to do something bold or risk becoming another
runner-up. I think it’s time to dangle LDT and see what he can get in return.
New Jersey Jacobins – You know those fantasy sleepers who get hyped up so much that they become ranked/drafted too high. Well I feel like that’s
what’s happened/happening to Dave’s team. Everyone is amazed (rightfully so) at his record despite losing Brady. But with Witten and Orton (two of his
four best players) dealing with lingering injuries and Barber facing eight man fronts with no opposing defense afraid of the Dallas passing game, Dave
may be headed for a rough patch as things seem to be falling apart at the wrong time. But Dave already got through one rough stretch of the season,
proved the doubters wrong, and so I wouldn’t doubt him again. The bright side is with Romo expected to return soon, Barber will be back to his old
dominating self.
Nomads in the Deep – Navid is fast becoming the team you just expect to see in the playoffs. It’s almost boring. There is no suspense. The question
remains can he return to his championship glory. Those plaques are beautiful, but he misses that trophy. I’m not sure he can do it with the way his
roster is performing. Gore was a fantasy beast early in the season, but it remains to be seen how he will work with Shaun Hill at QB and Mike Singletary
at head coach. B. Marshall has seen his productivity decline with Jay Cutler who (like Jay Cantor said in WGLPT think) has only been mediocre lately.
And having Eddie Royal, who has been fantastic, has led to a split in catches between the Broncos WR tandem. Roy E. Williams is still a huge question
mark. He is not playable right now, but will he be once Romo returns? I think Navid is one of the smartest owner’s in the league, and have no doubt he
will pull something big with all the recent trades going around.
Colt 45’s Bandits – Brock’s not happy with his team. Or at least that is what he’ll have you believe. But he’s still boasting like a winner. If you listen past
the end credits of his podcast, you’ll hear a little extra interview with himself. This is where Chris applauds all of Chris’s brilliant moves and decisions. I
know most of you probably don’t continue to listen, but it’s like the ending of ‘Iron Man’. If you fast forward just a bit, you’ll get a little something extra. All
kidding aside, I think Jonathan Stewart is going to be fantastic down the stretch. That’s my out of nowhere prediction for the rest of the year. I think
Boldin will continue to be consistent. But Chris needs more production out of his keeper K2. Looking back, Chris had to choose between Santonio
Holmes and Kellen Winslow Jr. as his second keeper. I guess neither would have been a good keep. Throw in the fact that his other keeper, Randy
Moss, has been nowhere near as good as he was in 2007 and you have to be just as amazed with Chris’ team as you are with Dave’s team.
(Sidenote, as I am writing this on Thursday night…Kellen Winslow just scored 2 TD’s. Chris’s new favorite player…Brady Quinn)
Born to Run My Mouth – Trying to keep up with Scott and the rest of the playoff bound teams, Richie Kiss is trying to do his best Parker Deay (circa
2007) impression by trading away keeper TJ Houshmandzadeh for DeAngelo Williams. Williams has been good this year sharing carries with Jonathan
Stewart, but I still feel Rich could have gotten more for TJ. But he’s weak at RB with McFadden hurting and it improves his roster without causing him to
suffer at WR (Jennings has been that good). Overall, a trade that upgraded his roster and one that could catapult him into the championship hunt.
Good luck this week buddy. I am surprised so many people picked me to win. I know you are missing most of your best players, but you have a lot of
favorable matchups. May the best ‘self-deprecating’ man win.
(Note to Brock. I heard you say on your podcast that Rich and I should have a ‘Who can be more self-deprecating’ contest at next year’s draft. Sorry big
guy. But I retired from that gig. Only positive thoughts from now on.)
Maryland Tools – Marc is in a tough spot. He has a playoff team. But he’s not too happy with it. Santana Moss, Lee Evans, Thomas Jones and Antonio
Gates will be there for him. But can he expect anything out of Larry Johnson? Does he have faith in Deuce or Kevin Faulk the rest of the season? On
the bright side, Greg Camarillo is this years Mike Furrey (or poor man’s Wes Welker if you prefer). The big question for Marc’s team…is Chad or Trent
for real? Will they come through for you in the playoffs? But I actually like the rest of Marc’s roster. Very balanced and solid all around.
Nose – Jarrett is in a very similar place as Marc. He has a playoff team. But he’s not too confident with his roster. Steve Smith and Aaron Rodgers have
been there for him all season. But Marshawn Lynch didn’t quite make the leap to elite RB. It seems like teams are starting to figure out how to stop the
‘wildcat’ formation that made Ronnie Brown so successful for a few weeks. And what Jarrett will get out of Chad is anyone’s guess. The big question for
two r’s and two t’s is which player is going to step up week in and week out to help Smith and Rodgers. Those two can’t carry his team once the playoffs
hit. He needs a big three.
Coffeeon3rd – Our week eight matchup was by far one of the ugliest in ROFFL history. McGahee was active, but didn’t play. Steven Jackson was
active, but only got seven carries and dropped a sure TD pass. Philly gets a cheap sack at the end of the game. Indianapolis gets a cheap INT and
fumble recovery on the last two NE possessions of the game. But in the end, it was Flacco vs. Russell. And that was the difference. Does this win mean
Josh will move on to the playoffs, while the loss will push me to the lottery? We’ll have to find out. But it was a big win nonetheless, and a win that you
can only hope to get when you have your worst week.
fair trade – The last time Nick the Slick traded a RB for a WR, it was Kevin Jones for Reggie Wayne. Wayne has been pretty good for Nick and I have
no doubt that with a change of scenery, TJ Housh will return to his 2007 form and all the glory that goes along with it. TJ/Wayne/Jacobs will lead Nickolai
back to the playoffs and dare I say it…another championship title. I have a bad feeling that seven weeks from now, we will be looking back and saying
this trade with Richie Kiss was the turning point of the season.
Fighting Blue Crabs – Don’t look now, but somebody’s won two in a row. VA Chris has refused to panic. And instead of pursuing trade options, VA has
held firm with his best players (T.O., Hines, Cooley, JLewis) and instead opted to upgrade his roster through the waiver wire. It looks like the plan is
working so far with two big wins in a row to put VA back in the race for the last playoff spot, and to help him fend off Jay for last place.
Five Second Stare – Don’t look now, but somebody else’s has won two in a row. Were we all too premature in declaring Jay the toilet bowl winner?
Adrian Peterson has ascended to the position of #1 fantasy football player in the league (where he will reign for years). Ryan Grant has arguably the
most fantasy friendly schedule the rest of the season. With Donnie Avery getting all the publicity, Torry Holt reminded everyone that he isn’t dead yet.
And Philip Rivers is the #1 ranked fantasy QB in most standard scoring leagues. Jay boasted of a 6 game winning streak to end the season. He’s one-
third of the way there.
PS – Interesting trade between the two last place teams. I applaud the attempt, but I think half the league is scratching their head at this trade right now.
What excites me the most about this trade is that these two teams meet next week in what could determine the toilet bowl. Will this trade play a major
role in who wins? I think one person will regret making this trade come two Tuesday’s from now.
Soaring Pigs – Just so you all know, Parker is playing mind tricks with you all. He got bored with winning and wanted to trick you into believing you all
had a chance. But he’s about to make a blockbuster trade and his roster will look like the 92’ Dream Team. Ok, back to reality. Who would have thought
Addai would have been this bad? Holmes has not come through for Parker (and to think I was considering taking him with my #3 pick). It’s been a tough
year for the defending champ. But I say it every year. I believe you have to bury the champ. You can’t give him reason to hope. And right now, he is not
statistically out of the playoff hunt. He has arguably one more loss to play with. But he must win out the rest of the games. With Westbrook returning to
form. A stout Tennessee defense leading the way. A steady 6 for 60 from Welker week in and week out. The only question is which Addai and Holmes
will show up the rest of the season.
I was going to write about my own team, but I got too tired.
Good luck everyone…trading season has begun!!!
