The Commish was about to blow it this week and skip his weekly posting. It’s been a crazy week for the Commish: He has a new roommate, has
rejoined the dating scene and is busy with his new job. Give the Commish a break.
Of course, someone had to go and blow up my spot – Thanks Rich! Yes, my BlackBerry buzzed late last night with Rich’s text saying that I was blowing
it (ok, that was my last blow). He said he read it every week… or at least the weeks that he won. Good for him that winning is happening often for him
these days. And yet (as Jay pointed out), not a peep about it on the message boards. Afraid of pissing off some Fantasy G-Men?
Not that Rich can be too happy with his sports life these days. After all the Giants are the Giants and the Mets blew (blew is not blow, people!) a seven
game lead to miss the playoffs. Sounds like Rich’s Fantasy team. Maybe Born to Run My Mouth swapped mojo with the Mets…
So because of Rich’s griping, I present to a second installment of what I will call Quick Hits (BOOM!). Quick Hits is an acronym for “Quick Uniquely
Interesting Confirmed Knowledge Heading Into Teaching Sentences”… which basically means I have little to say because I’m disgruntled with my
second close loss:
ANOTHER ONE SLIPS THROUGH THE CRACKS
BushMaroney'07 71.71 OVER Baltimore Tools 62.51
- After ALMOST handing Brock his first loss of the season, I ALMOST handed Josh his first loss to me… ever. Yes, Josh extends his win streak to
6-0. (the only other Owner to blank an Owner is Scott who maintains a 5-0 lead over Brian. But a weakened Watson faces Yeung in Week 7)
- In truth I could have pulled out this game. Marty Booker shot WAY below his average with just 1.53 points, as did the Minnesota D and Akers.
And Josh was clearly not up to snuff either, with Bush and Maroney out, Watson and Faulk were poor substitutes, Washington was pathetic and
the Baltimore D was horrific. I had him…
- Speaking of the Baltimore D, they are clearly spending too much time on the field. Currently their 45 fantasy points pit them in 15th place on the
Defense list, tied with Jacksonville. Heck Tampa Bay and Philly have a better showing this year, and they’re still available. Has time run out on
the Balt D?
BANDIT’S START 4-0 WITH THIRD 140+ GAME
Brock's Bandits 143.04 OVER Five Second Stare 101.90
- 146, 144, 114, 143… Those are Brocks first four games, averaging 137.25/ Not that his opponents haven’t fought the good fight: Including
Jacobins, all but one team has put up 100 against him.
- Brock may have more good fortune headed his way. In Week 5’s, he’s outscored opponents by 218 points and is undefeated. Good luck Brian.
- Great showing by Five, but LaMont Jordan and Joey Galloway’s lackluster performances (8 points total) really cost him the game
- In just four games, Brady\Moss have combined for an average of 57.69 points per game. I think we’re going to need a bigger word than “sick”
- Only three teams have ever started 4-0: Tools in 2002, started 4-0 before dropping a game to… Brock. They ended the season 8-5 and lost in
the playoffs. Rick Kiss started 2004 with five wins before dropping week 6 to… Brock. He wound up going 9-4 before losing in the playoffs.
And finally, Scott started his crazy good 2005 season at 7-0 (!) before falling to… Dave in week 8. He ended the season at a SICK 12-1 before
losing his mojo in the playoffs.
RANDOM WINS ONE BY BITING THE HORSE THAT FEEDS HIM
RandomThoughts 131.38 OVER Hungry Horses 100.06
- Prior to this victory, Brian spent the week sleeping on Parkers couch. For free. You really know how to pay a favor back, don’t ya Brian?
- …And Brian’s on the board. Yes, another season will come and go WITHOUT a blanked Owner. Congrats Brian and welcome back.
- Brian’s team has really come on as of late. I blame it on the managing: Great job this week benching Rivers and playing Culpepper. The 30+
point was clearly the difference maker. Oh and Ronnie Brown’s resurgence has certainly helped.
- Potentially a big loss for Parker this week, if Harrison’s injury keeps him out for the next few weeks. Westbrook too. I’m still loving Parkers team
(and rooting for a Playoff berth), but this could get ugly, quickly.
- Yeung still has gaps with Tatum Bell and Chris Chambers, but if they correct themselves, then Brian could make up for the times Daunte doesn’t
score 5 TD’s
- Note to Parker: CLEARLY your voice. Nice job Sunday night. They should keep you as a running bit. The guy who always get’s punched in the
nuts. I can see the clip show now with the montage of “Parker’s Nut Shots” set to the song “Numb” by Linkin Park.
GOOGLE HANGS ON
The Next Google 84.95 OVER New Jersey Jacobins 71.93
- Say what you want about Scott, he finds ways to win. His two victories this year have been decided by less than 15 points each.
- Dave – Anything for Todd Heap? I love that guy (yes, I know 6 points isn’t a lot, but I LOVE that guy)
- Dave can’t be too disappointed with this loss. His team scored 71.93 points thanks to a surprisingly big day from Dwayne Bowe (24) and Nate
Kaeding (12). Take those two out of the mix and Dave only scores 35. It was clearly just an off day for McNabb (5), Jackson (5), Henry (8) and
Barber III (6), although Henry may have some off days coming up…
- Scott must be VERY excited to have the (somewhat injured) Skins return to the field, as he clearly has no replacement for Moss and Portis.
Chester could only get you 4, which was your RB high this week, and Welker (8) won’t be the WR leader on your team.
NOMADS EVEN OUT THE SHIP
Nomads in the Deep 110.27 OVER anti-trust 95.72
- Nomads at 2-2 for the second year in a row. How did last year end? With a ROFF Bowl appearance.
- Get in line Nick: Yet another owner who will curse the name Carnell “Cadillac” Williams to the end of time
- Welcome back Big Ben! With another sad performance, Bulger is getting benched in real life AND fantasy. It’s an upgrade to the Nomads in my
opinion
- The Nomads have always been solid with WR’s. This week was no exception with Edwards benefiting from the new Cleveland QB (15), Furrey
getting more looks thanks to Calvin Johnson’s injury (11), and Crayton staring open for Romo (32!)
- Anti looks good at QB and WR, but that RB situation could be trouble. Looking ahead, I like the Graham\Jacobs start… but what they do could
be a different story. At least you have Fragile Freddy waiting in the wings.
TANKS TAKE THE MEAT OUT OF THE CRABS
Shermtanks 101.38 OVER Fighting Blue Crabs 80.03
- You can’t expect Jamal Lewis to be huge every week, can you? But you also can’t complain about a 10 point game from him
- Note to Gregg: It’s hard to win when a player scores in the negative numbers. Especially when that player is the one that is spotted 10 points at
the start of the game
- Solid all-around performance from the Tanks, the QB, WR’s and LT all went into double digits. Willie was slightly off, and Greg Olsen was not
around. Donald Lee was a great pick-up this week. I can confirm that both Scott and I were very disappointed we weren’t higher on the waiver
wire.
- Peyton Manning is averaging a smidge below 25 points per game. Where do I get someone like that!?
- Side note: I also love Robbie Gould
BORN AT 3-1
Born to Run My Mouth 126.53 OVER Nose 89.94
- After back-to-back 4-9 season, Rich could have four wins by week five! Welcome back. Guess you’ll allude the Toilet Bowl yet again (JINX?!)
- Jarrett is off to his worst start since joining the league and is in danger of missing the playoffs for only his second time
- Ok, maybe that last bullet was a little harsh. After all, he has potential in Manning, Smith, Holt, Lynch and Shockey, all who failed to impress this
week. Only the Seattle D, which knocked out Alex Smith early, impressed with 26 points. The ship will right itself Jarrett…
- Rich meanwhile is riding the Romo train: His 124.71 points (31 points per week) gives him the highest points among all QB’s. Not too shabby for
a fifth round draft pick.
- Shaun Alexander has been unimpressive this year: Every week his productivity has gone down: 15 in week 1, 13 in week 2, 8 in week 3, 6 in
week 4. What does week 5 have in store for him?
Best of luck to everyone this week.
Swami, 3-4 last week, will be have predictions entered by the Saturday night
