What a amazing week of Fantasy Football! As the #12 seed, I enjoyed the weekend by not doing anything. Nope. Nothing. No waiver wire. No night
sweats. No LITERALLY shitting myself. Nope. Nothing. Just enjoyed watching everyone else.
Fuckers.
Anywho, the week was pretty amazing. Five of eight teams posted 100+ point totals and three of the four winners posted 130+ point totals. It scares me
that a team that scored 126 or 115 didn’t get enough to win. Why do I get the feeling this is the start of a new VERY high scoring era for our league?
After all, eight teams this year broke the 1300 mark (and only one didn’t make the playoffs… don’t worry, I’M NOT BITTER AT ALL!)
Breath, Epstein…
Let’s talk games: After a close game through Sunday night, Rich finally took the reigns and blew away Dave. It was Rich’s first ever playoff win (CLAP,
CLAP), leaving only Blass winless in that column. It was also the 6th biggest win in playoff history and the 5th biggest ever in the Quarterfinals.
Nomads, meanwhile, just barely squeaked by the Pigs. His win by just 4.18 was the 4th closest game in playoff history and the 3rd closest game in the
Quarterfinals.
Points wise, we had three big games and one small one. Nomads\Pigs match up scored 257.16 points, placing them as the 4th highest scoring game in
playoff history (crazy – high scoring game, close margin of victory. DRAMA…). Coffee\Shermtanks also ranked in the top 10 – their 246.31 points
ranked 6th all time. Meanwhile, B’Day\Double G was the lowest scoring Playoff game since 2003.
So now we’re stuck with the evens: Seed’s 2, 4, 6 and 8 move on (side note: Last year it was the odds that took the Quarterfinals… eerie). What does
that mean to the future? Well in six playoffs, the #2, #4 and #8 seed have only made the finals once (#2 Nomads in 2005, #4 Shermtanks in 2004, #8
not guilty in 2002).
The #6 seed has never made the finals. Ever. In fact, #7 seeds (this year’s now defeated Pigs) have been to four ROFF Bowls (the most of any seed),
winning three of them (2006’s Five Second Stare, 2004’s Nomads, 2007’s Pigs). So does that mean that Nomads have the edge since they beat #7
Pigs and are playing the #6 B’Day? Not necessarily. Although facing B’Day next week does help – of the four teams that won this week, only B’Day
failed to break 130 points… or 90 for that matter.
So now we’ve set up quite an interesting story: It’s the Married\Engaged guys (Coffee\Born) taking on each other for a chance to play one of the single
guys (Nomads\B’Day). Only Navid (2004, 2005, 2006) and Brian (2002) have been to a ROFF before, so we’ll have at least one newbie to the dance.
I’m excited to see what everyone has in store for us. And a quick mention: Shermtanks, Jacobins, Double G and Soaring Pigs are still playing for the
right to play in the Five Layer Dip Bowl. Nothing but pride on the line, but sometimes that’s enough!
Good luck to all this week!
