Canton vs Five

Historically I don’t make predictions on the Championship games. I don’t want it to seem like I am playing favorites.  In truth, I am usually pulling for
the team that will keep the trophy closest to me (go NYC!) or the team that just hasn’t won one or had a winning team that often.

But I’ll be honest here: I don’t know who I would root for in this one. I mean, the trophy will stay in NYC no matter what, and these two have had very
successful franchises and have both been to “the show” before.  I guess the truth is, I don’t care who wins.

Wow, ok, that sounds mean. Of course I care, I just don’t know who I’m pulling for. I would enjoy seeing a three-peat. In fact, the only thing I would
enjoy more is seeing someone destroy the opportunity of the three-peat.  Enter Jay Cantor.

Cantor’s had an interesting season: He started the year off 1-2, before going on a three game winning streak, beating the Tanks, Crabs and Dorf
(although he only squeezed out that win by a few tenth of a point, and even then it came a few days later).  This run was followed by t
hree losses in
the next four games
.  Luckily he finished the season strong and wound up with a 7-6 record, averaging 99.73 points per game.

The Nomads were a different story, with a similar beginning.  After starting off slow with at 1-2, he went on a tear, winning 9 straight, and averaging
136 points per game.  He tripped at the end, scoring just 88 points in his last game and losing to the Crabs (although I’m sure he was just resting
his players
for the playoffs).

Nomads was clearly the more dominant team this season, ending in the number 1 position, and rolling through the playoffs.  Five’s 7th seed was
respectable, but by no means was he the favorite to be here. In fact, when you match the teams up by week over the season, Nomads would have
beat Five eight times this season, including six of the last eight games.

But then you get to the playoffs.  And both have been truly dominate.  Nomads scored 138 in their first game, while Five scored 128.  In the second
round Nomads scored 107.76 to Five’s 108.70.

People, people, people – DON’T YOU SEE WHAT I’M SAYING?  In the regular season they were not so evenly matched, but in the postseason –
HELLO! These two could wind up playing the closest ROFF Bowl in ROFF History!

Yes, ROFF Bowl 5 brings us a quality matchup.  Let’s look at the who has the advantages here:

QB
Nomads: Brees
Five: Bulger
Historically I’ll always give props to Bulger and the Greatest Show on Turf.  But this year, it’s all about Drew Brees.  I think the G-Men will prove to be
a hurdle, but NO has something to prove after the loss Washington, and I think they’ll go air.

WR
Nomads: Smith, Owens, Glenn
Five: Galloway, Driver, Edwards
Who doesn’t love what Romo has done for Owens this late in the season? That said, the Philly D are the one’s winning games for them of late (no
disrespect to Westbrook or Garcia).  And who doesn’t love Smith’s fall from Superman status?   But Smith, Owens and Glenn are phenomenal and
anyone would want any one of them playing for their team.  But this week the matchups favor Five, who plays Galloway against Cleveland, Driver
against Minnesota (who will require GB to pass) and Edwards against TB.
ADV: Five

RB
Nomads: Johnson and Gore
Five: McAllister and Benson
No contest. Johnson and Gore. I’m still amazed at Frank Gore and anyone who was smart enough to draft him gets my blessing. Bravo.

TE
Nomads: Clark
Five: McMichael
As a Dolphins fan, how can you not love McMichael? I think that the more favorable matchup is Clark against Detroit, but with the division locked up,
I hope Chicago will look to play it safe and run the ball the entire game (heck, do that just to keep Grossman out of the hot seat and keep the boo-
ing to a minimum).

DEF
Nomads: Indy
Five: Pitt
Indy is horrible against the run. Pitt is missing Polamalu.  Indy has the division pretty much locked up.  Pitt is playing for a chance to continue to be
mathematically in it.  Indy plays the Texans. Pitt plays Baltimore.  The Texans suck.  Baltimore may not have McNair
, and that means Boller at QB.
A tough choice, but Houston is horrible, and as bad as Indy’s D is, they still have the team going to the playoffs…

So there you have it – a tough call. I’m not making a prediction again, but I will say this: I’m going to enjoy watching my stat tracker this weekend!

Good luck to Navid and Jay.  May the best team win.
